Time Out says

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is doing things a little differently with this late-night performance

Orchestral music pops up in many moments in our everyday lives, from movie soundtracks and hold music to your grandma’s living room. But when was the last time you actually sat down to watch an orchestra play? Maybe you never have!

That’s where Up Late with the MSO comes in. The renowned Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is changing things up and throwing open the doors to help introduce a whole new generation of music lovers to the electrifying experience of witnessing a live orchestra. On April 5 at 9pm, you can encounter classical music done differently at the Arts Centre Melbourne’s Hamer Hall.

Up Late with the MSO is designed for the classical curious among us. You can expect to meet a composer, hear from a conductor and see one of the most popular orchestral works of all time performed live.

The MSO will be performing Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite (1911), Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No.2 (1994) and Alex Turley’s River. The latter is the world premiere of a work commissioned by the MSO for the 2022 Cybec Young Composer Program.

Conductor Ingrid Martin will be your guide, making this the perfect first taste of the MSO, or an opportunity to introduce a friend to the orchestra. The Hamer Hall bars will stay open throughout the performance, so you can grab a drink between pieces as you take in a heart-pumping late-night performance.

Tickets for Up Late with MSO are available now and you can get yours online here.
