There has never been a Melbourne bar quite like the LuWOW (in fact, it's one of the closed venues we miss most). The crew here knew that if you were going to make a tiki bar, by God, make it as tiki as possible. All those plastic accoutrements were probably not good for the sea turtles, but they brought a lot of joy.
LuWOW is gone but not for good, as the bar is now doing pop-up events around Melbourne. And this one sounds pretty bonkers – the theme is Hawaiian, '60s, rock'n'roll, tiki (of course) and really whatever other mishmash of bright colours and psychedelic prints you can think of.
Intoxica will be playing surf rock, followed by The Fanging Felines, who play '1960s girl-garage rock'n'roll'. There will also be DJs on the night, playing plenty of tunes for you to shake your groove thang, plus party games.
Food will be available (we suggest the Hawaiian burger), then grab a plastic mug and let your hair down. Wild times guaranteed, and the dress code is, and we quote, 'tropical crazy vintage Hawaiian rock ’n’ roll'.
