Don’t mind the queue. Garage Espresso is deceptively bigger on the inside - meaning your wait time for what could be St Kilda’s best eggs Benedict is short lived.
A decent eggs Bennie is a dying art these days, but Garage's apple cider vinegar Hollandaise keeps the breakfast dream alive for all you butter-and-egg based sauce fans. Coffee here strikes the same happy medium – good product (they use beans by micro roaster Merlo), well-crafted. Pumpkin toast and Persian feta makes for an avocado mash to write home about, as does a dollop of sheep’s milk yoghurt with vanilla and orange blossom on your fruit salad.
With a raised floor, leather booth seats and polished wood fittings, Garage has avoided the sins of many a cold, cavernous workshop conversion.
While they’re not doing anything radically different, they’re nailing the simple things like great produce and a perfectly poached egg. Keeping up fine balances is what will keep Garage in it for the long haul.
