This year’s shutdowns have really forced our creative industries to be, well, creative. Unable to host audiences physically, many of our favourite arts precincts have turned online to keep audiences engaged and artists performing. That innovative group includes Geelong Arts Centre, who are livestreaming acts to keep the arts alive while we’re all spending more time at home.
The live (and we should mention, free) line-up of online performances is part of the Centre’s ‘Where Creativity Meets at Home’ initiative, which has seen the regional arts precinct release archival performances, behind-the-scenes sneak peeks and DIY activities for audiences to engage with at home. The series continues into November, with some stellar artists lined up.
Audiences logging on on Friday November 6 are in for a treat as Scott Darlow performs his songs and shares his wisdom about Australia and First Nations culture. Formerly a schoolteacher, Darlow has had six of his songs on mainstream radio and has supported Jimmy Barnes, Diesel, Jon Stevens and Eskimo Joe to name a few. In between acoustic versions of songs such as 'You Can’t See Black in the Dark' and 'Bind the Hands of Time' he'll tell stories about history, AFL, Closing the Gap and reconciliation.
You can watch the Geelong Arts Centre's livestreams by heading along to the organisation’s Facebook page. Time Out Sydney and Melbourne's Facebook pages will also stream the performances – all you need to do is lock these dates into your calendar.
