A new international art and design market is coming for you Melbourne. Community Service is a weekend market bringing a stack of artists, independent publishers, galleries, designers and other creatives to the grungy-chic grounds of Collingwood this April.
The arty fair originated in Los Angeles where founder Michael Krim wanted to create a space where creatives could not only sell their work, but also exchange ideas with like-minded people from around the world.
More than 30 different artbook, zine and magazine companies, artists and galleries are lined up to attend Community Service. They’ll be exhibiting and selling their finest work, including rare works and content exclusive to the market. Yes, there will be lots of crazy cool printed works, but there will also be T-shirts, hoodies, tapes and even leotards and silk pyjamas (what better to read in?).
The April market will feature publishers like DeadBeat Club, FFF Zine and Hamburger Eyes; artists such as Ellen Virgona, Sean Marung, Tim Hardy and Gabriella lo Presti; and brands like Paper Work NYC, Bow3ry, Poly and Maroske Peech
After trawling through the talented artists chill out at the bar with a brew from Moon Dog or a vino from Rosé Rosé. Guests are welcome (and encouraged) to hang out at the market, with live DJs all day and into the evening.
Entry is free and while some vendors will accept card payments, guests are advised to bring cash.
