Sugar skull makeup and tacos are all the rage, but the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is a centuries-long tradition of honouring those who have passed on. Paradise Alley is going to pay homage to that tradition – as well as host a fantastic fiesta – on November 3.
As part of the celebrations, there will be an altar to honour those who have died. You will be able to 'buy a beer for someone that’s no longer here’, with the proceeds going to Brigada de Rescate Topos Tlaltelolco A.C. The organisation is a volunteer-run rescue organisation, which brings help to those who are trapped under rubble or in buildings. It was founded in the wake of the devastating 1985 Mexico City earthquake and helps with disaster relief all over Latin America.
What would a party be without excellent food and drink? New Zealand craft brewery Garage Project is taking over the taps and will be selling super-limited Day of the Dead beers. The Little Latin Lucy kitchen will be serving up tacos to hungry party-goers.
There will also be a Mariachi band, so bring your dancing shoes.
