Whether or not you know the name Michael Leunig, you’d likely recognise his work. With their characteristic big noses and political overtones, Leunig’s cartoons have been a feature of the Australian media and political landscapes for decades.
Born in Melbourne and educated, as his website puts it, ‘at various factory gates, street corners, kitchen tables, paddocks, rubbish tips, quarries, loopholes, puddles and abattoirs’, Leunig has led a robust and interesting life. He’s been publishing comics for longer than the combined length of time our last ten prime ministers have held the top spot, and he’s created commentary in a time when any and all politics are polarising.
Now, Mercedes me Melbourne is partnering with the writer/painter/philosopher/poet to bring you an evening in conversation with Leunig. He’ll talk about politics, culture, and more in this up-close encounter.
The event takes place on Tuesday, December 4 and tickets are just $10 (book yours here). It’s the latest in Mercedes me’s series, which is designed to promote shared brand values including art, sport, design, innovation, food, wine, fashion and community leadership.
