Is Justin Trudeau’s social media proposition to Taylor Swift to blame for the end of his marriage?

The Prime Minister and his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, announced the end of their marriage today in two separate statements.

Where was Justin Trudeau married to Sophie Grégoire?

Married in Outremont in 2005 at Sainte-Madeleine d'Outremont—just a few blocks away from some of the most iconic addresses in the city (hello Lester’s Deli, one of the city's top restaurants, Damas, and St. Viateur Bagel)—and the pair celebrated with a reception at a hotel in Old Montreal.

Sophie’s wedding dress was from Les Noces Couture, a well-known shopping destination in the heart of the Golden Square Mile, and right around the corner from the city’s best secret spa and one of the city’s hottest new restaurants (not to mention one of Antoni Porowski’s most romantic spots in the city).

How did they meet?

The pair met at a Canadian Grand Prix event in 2003, and the rest is history.

The joint statements issued separately on Instagram stated that after "many meaningful and difficult conversations" the pair have "made the decision to separate. As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build.”

For the well-being of their children, the Trudeaus are asking Canadians to respect the family's privacy at this time.

Whether or not Justin Trudeau tweeting at Taylor Swift had anything to do with the couple ending their 18 year marriage is to be seen.
