NYC kids are eligible for kindergarten the year they turn five, and if your kiddo turns five next year, it's time to start thinking about kindergarten. Can you believe it?
Kindergarten applications for the 2018–2019 school year in NYC open this week (on Tuesday Nov 28, to be exact). The application period will close on Jan 12. Kindergarten is mandatory for all NYC five-year-olds and has been since 2013.
Parents can apply for kindergarten classes in up to 12 schools, though most children attend kindergarten in their neighborhood's school zone. Parents can submit their child's application for kindergarten here or by phone (718-935-2009).
