Disney's new streaming service: The good and the bad

Move over Netflix and Hulu—you're going to have some competition.

In 2017, rumors swirled that Disney would release its own streaming service, and now the word is out on plans for its fall 2019 debut.

The service will be a tad different than what you're normally accustomed to, as there will be no R-rated content available (a plus for families with young kids). It will also reportedly have a lower monthly rate than Netflix, since its inventory will be smaller. F.Y.I.... Following the streaming service's release, Disney films will likely no longer be available on Netflix...bittersweet indeed.

So, if we subscribe, what should we expect? A lot of fan-favorites, that's for sure. Much to kids' (and parents') delight, Disney's service will stream Marvel and Star Wars movies, so you and your crew are going to want to plan nights in when the time comes. There will be roughly four to five original movies and five TV shows to look forward to the first year.

Deadline reported that projects such as Lady and the Tramp and The Paper Magician could be underway while the TV shows will include a Monsters Inc. series and—wait for it—High School Musical. Anyone one else ready for a return of the Wildcats?

It might be quite some time before we can get the popcorn ready, but this definitely gives us some magical goodness to look forward to.

Not sure what to watch in the meantime? Take a look at these new Disney movies, have a gander at the new kids' movies on Netflix or plan an outing to see one of the new kids' movies in theaters
