We can’t help but weep after learning that Toys “R” Us is expecting to close approximately 180 locations nationwide beginning this February.
The go-to kids’ store is making this move with the hopes of resurfacing after bankruptcy, CNBC reports. Actions will begin next month and continue through mid-April. Although there is a goal in mind, we can’t help but feel nostalgic for strolls down the Barbie aisle and fond times spent browsing the stuff animal inventory.
"The reinvention of our brands requires that we make tough decisions about our priorities and focus," Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David Brandon wrote in a statement. "We also intend to convert a number of locations into co-branded Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores. The actions we are taking are necessary to give us the best chance to emerge from our bankruptcy proceedings as a more viable and competitive company."
This certainly isn’t the first time shoppers faced this news. Late last year, rumors swirled of roughly 100 locations closing, especially considering the way in which we purchase toys has changed this day and age.
If you’re in the area, here are the New York and New Jersey stores facing closures, according to CNBC.
