Students who are learning remotely might get teachers from different schools

There are no guarantees.

Now is the time to start planning for the new school year, especially since it won't be like anything we've ever experienced.

The majority of NYC students will be participating in a blended learning model this fall, while roughly one third of children are sticking to a remote curriculum. However, many factors surrounding remote learning—including the educators—are still to be determined. It's possible that students will be learning from teachers across schools, not necessarily their own.

"Our goal has always been that students that are remote learning will have teachers from their school or a teacher from their school," Chancellor Richard Carranza said during the mayor's Aug 17 press briefing. "There'll be some continuity. Obviously, that is our goal, but that's not a guarantee, because it's going to depend on how many teachers at that school are in remote mode.”

Although the city seems intent on keeping the Sept 10 start date, despite pushback from unions and lawmakers, this process is something that's still being hashed out.

"Obviously, if you have less students per class, you need additional staffing. So, we are in the throes of all of those detail planning processes right now. We're working very closely with our unions, both our administrator union, CSA, and our teacher's union, UFT," Chancellor Carranza added.
