Will NYC kids get a snow day this week?

Mother Nature certainly enjoys teasing us.

Hopefully you didn’t get too comfortable with the recent warm weather because you’re probably going to need that winter coat again (apologies for being the bearer of bad news). The National Weather Service has reported that the Tri-State area is in for another cool down this week, and according to amNY, some snow might be in our future. Naturally, this begs the famous question: Are kids going to get a snow day?

Much to little ones’ delights, a day home from school might be in the realm of possibilities, although it’s not clear as to when. Monday, Jan. 29 is expected to be fairly warm with temperatures in the mid-40s. However, there is a 40 percent chance of rain starting in the afternoon and developing into snow later in the evening. Tuesday, Jan 30 will gift us with temperatures in the mid-30s (sigh).

We might see temperatures rise again by Thursday, Feb 1, but a wintry mix could work its way to us by Friday morning, so we’re definitely getting a little taste of everything this week. We’ll have to hang tight and see what exactly we’re in store for, but for the sake of the kiddos, let’s hope the Thursday night's wintry mix is so bad that they’ll end up with a school closure on Friday—and a three-day weekend (let’s be honest, that’s what adults want, too). Keep an eye on our guide to NYC school closings—you never know what this wacky season will throw our way.

Whether or not your little one gets a snow day, take a look at our favorite winter activities for kids, make sure they’re dressed comfortably with one of the best winter coats for kids and enjoy a little r&r as a family and watch one of these kids’ movies.
