Figment NYC beckons visitors to Governors Island with a summer-long festival of art and fun just a ferry-ride away
Though it’s a short ferry hop from the city, Governors Island seems like a world apart from the rest of the five boroughs with its expansive lawns, tree-shaded walkways and buildings that look like they came from Main Street, U.S.A. It’s the perfect weekend getaway from NYC, in other words, made all the more enticing by Figment NYC, a program of art shows, performances, fun activities for kids and more. Now in its tenth edition, Figment NYC provides relief from the heat and annual attractions in NYC that include the centerpiece City of Dreams Pavilion (selected each year in an open-call competition), as well as an artist-designed miniature golf course. Ferries to Governors Island depart daily from Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan and also during weekends from Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park at the foot of Atlantic Avenue. Be sure to get on board!
