We don’t know about you, but the lovely warm weather in NYC is making us want to shop for some new spring and summer duds to show off in front of the city’s many cherry blossom trees. (Don’t act like you haven’t already done just that.) The only downside is that we’ve been throwing away our hard-earned spending money on frozen cocktails from all the new tiki bars around town.
Sigh. What’s a poor and tipsy soul to do? Luckily, May is shaping up to be a good month to grab cheap clothing for the warm-weather season. There are a few affordable shopping events, plus the much-awaited Primark in Brooklyn opening soon. So if you want to update your wardrobe in the next few weeks without breaking the bank, here’s where to go.
The Second Annual Camaraderie Clothing Swap
Inclusive women’s group The Camaraderie NYC is hosting their second clothing swap in collaboration with Bustle and SPACES. The process is simple: Bring any gently-worn clothing and accessories you no longer wear, then go raid the bounty provided by other participants. Chances are, you’ll be leaving with a bag full of new, pre-loved styles to rock this season. Tickets for the event are $18. SPACES, 1740 Broadway. Sat 12 3–5pm; Buy tickets in advance.
Bushwick Stop ‘N’ Shop
Same concept, different borough! GrowNYC—a sustainable resource for Gothamites—is also hosting a shop and swap event this weekend too. All you have to do is bring something in order to take something, and the event is totally free. BKLYN Commons, 7 Marcus Garvey Boulevard, Brooklyn. Register here.
Depending on how many U.K. style influencers you follow on Instagram, you may or may not be familiar with this mega-chain. But the most important piece of information is this: You can get apparel such as tops, pants and skirts for as low as $7. The shop opens at Kings Plaza Shopping Center (5100 Kings Plaza, Brooklyn) sometime in May. We will keep you posted once we find out the exact date. But, in the meantime, you can head to their Staten Island location.
