For those of you who are unfamiliar, the James Beard Awards are the Oscars of the food world, celebrating the best chefs from across the nation. New York, being a true culinary capital, is the only city in the country that gets its own award, with the rest of the nation split into regions. Monday night, chefs from across the nation gathered in Chicago for the awards ceremony.

Best Chef in NYC went to Missy Robbins of Lilia in Brooklyn. Other nominees included Amanda Cohen of Dirt Candy, Ignacio Mattos of Estela, Alex Stupak of Empellón Midtown and Jody Williams of Buvette Gastrothèque. With a powerhouse list like this, it’s a good time to be dining out in the city.

But that’s not all. New York snagged a few other awards last night. De Maria, the hip cafe in Nolita, won for Outstanding Restaurant Design. And for the coup de grâce, Gabrielle Hamilton of Prune, the popular eatery in Bowery known for their brunch, took home the prize for Outstanding Chef.
