Is it more difficult (or impossible) for guys to get hard after a few drinks? I’ve been with a few guys who couldn’t get it up after we knocked back a few. I’m beginning to wonder whether it’s me or the alcohol.

Mizzy, Upper East Side

The term “whiskey dick” is a thing for a reason. Most of the time, a lost erection has nothing to do with a man’s partner. The culprit can often be mental, but when alcohol is thrown into the mix, science tells us the influence of booze (it dehydrates your body and inhibits the central nervous system) can affect men’s ability to have or keep an erection and prevent women from getting wet. If you really want to get it in, skip the drinks and take the express train straight to bed.

My fuck buddy from California (I moved here a year ago) is visiting soon. He said that he’d “love to grab drinks” with me, but he doesn’t know that I’ve been in a serious relationship for seven months. Would it be wrong for me to hang out with him? Should I tell my boyfriend?

Marie, Williamsburg

Girl. What do you think “grabbing drinks ” means?!? Tell this FB you have a boyfriend. If you guys still want to get together, you should let your boyfriend know, but I don’t think you necessarily have to tell him the whole back story. But think hard about how you’d feel if your boyfriend did the same sort of thing to you. If the answer is not good, you probably should skip the superfluous drinks catchup with this dude and focus on your relationship. Or, if I’m reading this wrong and you want to sleep with this guy, go for it—but break up with your boyfriend first.
