With the go-ahead given by the Mufti of Singapore

The latest news is in: Ramadan officially starts today at 2.47pm, following a go-ahead from Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir, the Mufti of Singapore.
The reason? He explains that the crescent moon didn’t quite rise this week. On February 17, it dipped below the horizon four minutes before sunset. With that, the month of Syaaban (the eighth month of the Islamic calendar) wrapped up at a full 30 days on February 18, and Ramadan was declared for this afternoon.
Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims across the island. During this time, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk – no food, drinks, or water.
And at its core, Ramadan is about a reset. It’s a time to slow down, reflect, and check in with oneself – spiritually and emotionally. Muslims focus on strengthening their faith through prayer, practising generosity and charity, and making a conscious effort to let go of the bad.
The Mufti echoed this, extending his warm greetings to the Muslim community, encouraging everyone to make the most of the month through faith, reflection, and kindness.
At the same time, Ramadan marks the start of something that the Malay community and Singaporeans at large eagerly await each year: bazaar season. Crowd favourites like the Gemilang Kampong Gelam Ramadan Bazaar and the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar return with their usual mix of local food, fashion and festive happenings.
Check out all the things to do during Ramadan in Singapore, as well as the bazaars happening alongside the festivities. Wishing everyone a Selamat Ramadan!
