This quaint neighbourhood coffee joint has evolved over the years, but the food remains constantly delicious. A mainstay that will surely please: the Ultimate Croissant ($16), layered with honey baked ham, cheddar cheese, and creamy scrambled eggs. Equally popular is the crab cake Benedict ($19), sprinkled with furikake; honey paprika crispy wings ($11), and a comforting rendition of bangers and mash ($14). Save space for desserts – lemon meringue tart ($6) packs a refreshing punch, and the intense black sesame tart ($6) comes topped with matcha cookie shavings for good measure.

At Daizu Cafe, look forward to novel brunch offerings that fuse Japanese flavours with Western cooking techniques. Try the garlic butter sakura ebi ($16), a take on carbonara with garlic butter sauce and crunchy sakura ebi; the aglio olio-inspired chicken paitan ($14), where spaghetti comes tossed in umami-packed thickened chicken broth; and the hearty Daizu brunch ($22) with brioche, spiced chicken sausage, rosti hash, and truffled scrambled eggs with a cheeky addition of black ebiko that brings to mind beads of caviar.

What used to be an Australian restaurant, Fynn’s, has since been transformed into an Italian osteria, Caffe Cicheti. But the brunch menu is a delicious combination of influences from both countries to give you plates of ricotta hotcakes ($19.50) and truffle-infused omelette ($25), alongside pesto spaghetti ($24) with pounded pine nuts and corn and zucchini fritters ($25) with jalapeño jam.

In case you haven’t heard, Park Bench Deli is more than just a sandwich shop now. Following its recent revamp, the menu, too, comes filled with fresh additions of hearty big plates – now available for delivery and takeaway. Sample the lemon ricotta hotcakes ($20), almost pillow-like in texture; or chow down on bowls of salads (from $16). But sandwiches remain the star: feast on the winning breakfast sandwich ($15) that’s really yummy enough to be enjoyed at any time of the day, or spice up the meal with a mala chicken sammie ($17).

Freshly baked loaves can also be purchased, but those looking for a scrumptious feast can browse its Soul Kitchen menu. This wholesome coffee spot might promise a healthy menu, but don’t expect the usual salad bowls and green smoothies. Instead, the menu comes lovingly prepped with thoughtful ingredients – most are made from scratch, and natural Himalayan salt is used instead of regular table salt. Signature avocado toast ($18) is smeared with Vegemite, and slow-cooked congee ($13) is a soothing treat with egg and boneless chicken leg. For lighter bites, grab its housemade bagel ($5), or dig into a creamy Basque cheesecake ($9).

The industrial-chic space of The Refinery specialises in mod bowls of donburi. In particular, its gyudon ($16) comes topped with shimeiji mushrooms and a soft-boiled egg. Depending on your mood, you can also find grain bowls ($16) that come with salmon poke, slow-charred unagi, teriyaki chicken, mixed chirashi, and more.
