While there’s been many new cafés and specialty coffee joints in the last few years, there’s one that still reigns over all others: Starbucks. This American coffee chain might not have the charm of a hidden café or a trendy brunch spot, but it’s still a trusty choice when you need a cup of Joe to get you through the day. And one other thing’s for sure – Starbucks knows where to set up shop.

From an old Katong police station to a colonial bungalow in Rochester Park, Starbucks has chosen some of Singapore’s best heritage buildings and unique architectural spots to open their doors. Of the 130 or so stores in Singapore, here are eight Starbucks stores that are by far the most photogenic.

Beautiful Starbucks stores in Singapore

1. Katong Square

As a ‘hood known for its rich heritage and conservation shophouses, it’s little wonder that even Starbucks here has claimed the old Joo Chiat Police Station. This conservation building dates back to the 1920s – as the story goes, it’s where they would lock up triad gang members.

And what a massive change it’s been from the presumably dingy jail cells of the past. Today, grab your regular Starbucks order while enjoying the refurbished interiors and lofty ceilings. It’s also bright and airy, with natural sunlight streaming in through the windows – a serious contender to other work-friendly cafés.

Find this Starbucks at 80 East Coast Road, Katong Square, Singapore 428788.

2. Bird Paradise

After shifting more than 3,000 birds from their former home at Jurong Bird Park, Bird Paradise has swiftly become one of our country’s best family-friendly attractions. Once you’re done admiring the different species of birds at Asia’s largest bird park, pop by the Starbucks here.

The entire store is done up in light green hues with hand-painted murals by local artists. They’ve also thoughtfully used recycled wood in many of the outlet’s furnishings, from the outdoor bench seatings to the ceiling’s rafters. There’s also a jungle-themed playground at the front of the store to entertain any overexcited kids.

3. The Rail Mall

Round arches and a backdrop of lush greenery are some standout features of the Starbucks at the Rail Mall – it’s not a sight commonly seen in our built-up city. This pre-war shophouse, flanked by equally charming refurbished structures, is right next to the Rail Corridor and Bukit Timah Reserve.

Drop by before or after romping about the surrounding nature – the cool aircon and fresh brews are all the more satisfying after a gruelling 24km hike. While there, you’ll also notice a series of paintings that frame the space nicely, depicting coffee farms from all around the world.

4. Rochester Park

This black-and-white colonial bungalow in Rochester Park is a true showstopper, marking it as one of the more stunning Starbucks stores in Singapore. With its leafy surrounds and statuesque pillars, it’s the epitome of quiet luxury – as much as a simple Starbucks store could ever be, that is.

Sit yourself down at one of the alfresco tables to best soak in the fresh air. You can also take the chance to order a comfortingly warm drink, since the outdoor terrace on the second floor often has bouts of a cool breeze passing through.

5. Jurong Lake Gardens

When the Starbucks at Jurong Lake Gardens first opened, there was much fanfare over this new picture-perfect store. With log cabin-like structures and floor-to-ceiling windows, it would’ve made its rounds around most social media feeds.

What stands out most is the unblocked views of Jurong Lake and the wetlands. The alfresco seating area is also pet-friendly, so make sure to bring your pups down on a cool day to enjoy a cuppa together – take the chance to order a Puppuccino off the Starbucks’ secret menu.

6. River Wonders (formerly River Safari)

This Starbucks at Mandai’s River Wonders has it all – a splash of greenery, a lineup of refreshing drinks, and most importantly, a strong gust of aircon that’s most appreciated after a day spent strolling through the river-themed wildlife park.

No doubt that it’s tempting to while away the afternoon in this airy space, but treat it as a pit stop while exploring the nearby scenic grounds. Tip: you wouldn’t need an entrance ticket to River Wonders to swing by this Starbucks, so you can fuel up here while visiting the zoo or night safari too.

7. Liat Towers

As the very first Starbucks store to have opened in Singapore, the Liat Towers branch holds a special place in the hearts of all Starbucks fans. This centrally located store first opened its doors back in 1996 – this was one of the rare few 24-hour joints back then, so you bet the store was often packed like sardines.

They’ve refurbished over the years, and today, the gleaming space is a popular haunt for shoppers and tourists alike. The focal point would be the towering wall of nearly 100 Starbucks cups, all specially designed by Starbucks’ baristas in Singapore.

Find this Starbucks at 541 Orchard Road, Singapore 238881.

8. Jewel Changi Airport

This particular store deserves a spot – not just because it’s the flagship Starbucks in Singapore – but also because it’s exquisitely designed. Is it too far-fetched to call it an architectural marvel?

Perhaps, but that doesn’t deny the fact that the facade’s woodwork beautifully represents the hilly slopes of coffee plantations. In any case, it’s befitting of Jewel Changi Airport itself. A strong statement, considering that Changi Airport was once again voted the World’s Best Airport for the twelfth time.
