Living in Sydney isn’t cheap, but the recent weeks have actually brought some pretty good news on the cozzie livs front – with a new free electricity scheme rolled out across the state, the NSW toll cap lowered to $50 per week, and now confirmation that Opal fares will stay at 2025 prices for the next 12 months.

The fare freeze is part of the NSW Government's new $561 million Transport Affordability Package, which aims to ease cost-of-living pressures for Sydneysiders and beyond. Plus, the $50 weekly Opal travel cap is sticking around, meaning you'll never pay more than $50 a week on the Opal network.

That's not the only budget-friendly measure rolling out across the next few months. From September 1, eligible vehicle owners will automatically receive $100 off car registration ($80 for motorcycles) when they renew through Service NSW. Drivers who regularly rack up tolls will also benefit from the weekly toll cap dropping to $50 from July 6 for the next 12 months, while paper toll notice administration fees are being scrapped altogether, saving motorists at least $10 every time they accidentally miss a payment.

The NSW Government is also hoping to make power bills a little less painful. Its new Home Energy Saver program is already helping households install upgrades like rooftop solar, home batteries, reverse-cycle air conditioning and heat pump hot water systems through zero-interest loans of up to $15,000.
