The City of Boston declared a heat emergency for the area on Tuesday and while it is set to end today, temperatures will remain in the high 90s through the weekend. Please remember that extreme heat can be dangerous, so drink lots of water, rest often in shaded areas if outside and watch out for those who may be at higher risk of heat-related illnesses. However, there are some fun ways to stay cool as well and we have rounded up our favorite ways to beat the heat in Boston

1) Visit one of Boston’s pools

Boston is home to more pools open to the public than you may think. While some are for adults only and others are family-friendly, there is a pool for everyone. For a pool party vibe, head the Colonnade Hotel to visit the RTP (rooftop pool) to enjoy cocktails, food and of course a refreshing dip. As one of the few hotel pools open to non-guests, you will want to get here early to scoop up a day pass and lounge chair. But remember non-guests are only allowed during the week, weekends are for hotel guests only. If you want to bring the whole family check out the Veterans Memorial Pool in Cambridge. This pool is free to all and is open 11:15am - 6:45pm daily. Be sure to read out complete list of the best pools in Boston if you want to take a dip over the next few days.

2) Go to the beach

If you are more a toes-in-the-sand type person, we also have lots of public beaches in the area as well that are a great option for cooling down during this heatwave. And the best part is many of them are accessible via public transportation. The classic choice is Revere Beach, which is accessible via the Blue Line, we recommend getting off at the Wonderland stop, although the Revere Beach stop works as well. The best part about Revere Beach is that the original Kelly’s Roast Beef is located there, so pack light and order a beach friendly lunch at a New England summer must-try. 3) Have fun indoors during the heatwave

Unfortunately, sometimes it is even too hot for the pool or the beach and some ice cold AC is the only thing to do the trick. Luckily, this is Boston, so we have some amazing indoor activities as well. Plan a visit to one of our world class museums this summer. The Museum of Fine Arts, Institute of Contemporary Art and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum all have wonderful exhibits on show right now in addition to their stunning permanent collections. So, maybe schedule in a little culture this weekend while escaping the heat.
