Jazz Marathon 2023

Join Jazz in the Neighbourhood as they celebrate International Jazz Day at Jazz Marathon 2023, one of Hong Kong’s most prominent music events in the jazz scene. Taking place at Tsuen Wan Town Hall from April 28 to 30, the event will see seven internationally acclaimed jazz musicians and groups take to the stage as they showcase the diverse styles of the genre, ranging from artistically rearranged classical pieces composed by Frédéric Chopin to mesmerising performances of tango and Spanish jazz.

Japanese band Mambo Inn will kick off Jazz Marathon 2023 on April 28 with their swinging sounds of Latin jazz, followed by accordion and jazz piano performances from a trio led by French accordion master Marc Berthoumieux and featuring Italian jazz pianist Giovanni Mirabassi. On the next day, Swedish pianist Jacob Karlzon will accompany vocalist Viktoria Tolstoy for the first half of the evening, before he teams up with Morten Ramsbøl on bass and Rasmus Kihlberg on drums to deliver melodies influenced by Scandinavian elements. The last day of Jazz Marathon 2023 will begin with a collaborative matinee performance between award-winning Italian saxophonist Francesco Cafisio and American jazz pianist Esteban Castro, followed by renowned German jazz drummer and composer Wolfgang Haffner and his quartet as they take to the stage for a repertoire of Haffner’s music. Finally, legendary jazz guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel along with Swiss pianist Jean-Paul Brodbeck, Jorge Rossy on drums, and Lukas Traxel on bass will deliver creative jazz interpretations of Chopin’s classical music.
