From stunning 360-degree views of the city skyline to spots right at the edge of the Petronas Twin Towers for showy fireworks, here are the best bars in KL that provide an excellent vantage point to catch the colourful pyrotechnics come midnight.

Fuego

  • KL City Centre
  • price 4 of 4
This stellar restaurant and bar at Troika Sky Dining has one of the best seats in the city centre to watch the fireworks – that is if you can get a table (so book early!). Perched on the 24th floor, it opens out to the Twin Towers, which provide the perfect backdrop for the colourful pyrotechnics come midnight, as pictured here. Food-wise, Fuego’s Latin American-inspired dishes are perfect for celebrations like this, as they are made for sharing. Think big plates of grilled meats, nachos and guacamole, along with some of the best cocktails around.
Heli Lounge Bar
  • Bars and pubs
  • Bukit Bintang
Boasting a stunning 360-degree view of the city skyline, Heli Lounge Bar makes a perfect viewing deck to watch the fireworks. The KL Tower will be within view, but you should set your sights on the Petronas Twin Towers, which usually offers the biggest and brightest fireworks display in town. We definitely suggest coming by in the evening so you can catch the sunset too.

Stratosphere
  • Bars and pubs
  • Bandar Utama
PJ folks, too, have their very own helipad bar. Stratosphere sits atop a grassed helipad, offering a striking view of the busy township at night. You can always count on giant malls like The Curve and 1 Utama Shopping Centre to throw a showy fireworks display. If you’re lucky, you might even spot the pyrotechnics from Desa ParkCity.
Mantra
  • Bars and pubs
  • Bangsar
Sitting atop Bangsar Village II is Mantra Bar KL, which boasts an alfresco deck with panoramic views of the surrounding neighbourhood and a long bar that commands your view as you walk in. You'll get a good overview of the city and its twinkling lights as well as the fireworks. Come midnight, toast to the new year with the bar's cocktails; we recommend the Pulau Panjang and Mekong Sunset.

SkyBar
  • Nightlife
  • Nightlife venues
  • KL City Centre
SkyBar at Traders Hotel has the best seats in the house, that is, if you camp out early to snag a decent spot. The hotel sits right at the edge of the Petronas Twin Towers – you can’t get any closer to the action. Book a room in advance and rest your head (and feet) when all the drinks and dancing are over.
Elysium
  • Nightlife
  • Bukit Bintang
Elysium is 32 floors up, providing an excellent vantage point to catch all the NYE action. Smack dab in the city centre, the bar has an open-air terrace upstairs which offers an unobstructed view of the city, so a wide-angle shot of the pyrotechnics is almost guaranteed. Round up your posse, grab a drink, and wait for the sky to be filled with bursts of colours.

  • Bars and pubs
  • Wine bars
  • TTDI
Private Room carries over 200 labels from all over the world, so you’re bound to find one to toast to the New Year. Don’t forget the cheese platter.
  • Bars and pubs
  • Cocktail bars
  • Bangsar
For a (quiet) breath of fresh air, Coley is away from the Bangsar revellers. Cocktails here go a long way: Priced from RM20, they’re cheap enough to last you for the night.

  • Damansara
HYDE serves up some of the fanciest cocktails in town, meaning it’s nearly impossible to make a disappointing choice. If you’re into whiskies, HYDE’s sister bar 61 Monarchy is just down the road.
