Remember when Londoners would wince at a pint costing more than a fiver? Well, £7 or £8 is increasingly the norm. But not for one new Spanish eatery, whose cerveza prices will make you feel like you’ve just landed in Seville.
Take a huge gulp of Estrella in relief: Spanish tapas bar Los Primos is serving traditional cañas, a third of a pint, for £2.50 a pop. And of course, there will be plenty of fresh churros, cured meats and calamares on the menu. Cervecería Los Primos at Borough Yards (next to Borough Market) will throw open its doors in November.
Brought to you by Harts Group, the hospitality company behind Barrafina, El Pastor, Parrillan and Quo Vadis, the new venue takes over the space currently occupied by Parrillan Borough Yards.
Operating as a walk-in-only venue – such is the Spanish way – customers at Los Primos can eat standing at the bar or perched on a stool, overlooking cold tapas displayed in a glass cabinet. The restaurant will cater to every hour of the day. Breakfast sounds especially indulgent, with hot coffee and churros dipped in chocolate sauce. For lunch there’s bocadillo stuffed with tortilla, pork loin, chorizo or egg, alongside Estrella Galicia served in a caña, media or a doble if it’s a Friday.
Drinks can be paired with simple bar bites like kikos (salted corn) and olives. For hot tapas, expect jamón croquetas, crispy pigs’ ears, honey-drizzled aubergine fritters, tuna empanadas and cider-cooked chorizo.
Anna Watkins, managing director of Barrafina Group, said: ‘Having lived in Madrid, owned a house in Costa de la Luz for over 20 years and grown up spending summers with our family in Mallorca, we wanted to pay homage to the cervecerías we know and love: a home away from home found in every neighbourhood.’

‘I am looking forward to propping myself up at the bar and watching the world go by, as I would in Barcelona.’
