The London pizza scene is growing by the day, but we’re certainly not complaining. This week alone we found out that Lenny’s Pizza is returning to London, that Yard Sale is planning to launch its 18th branch and the Bad Boys Pizza Society have started serving their ‘zas at the newly-opened Village Underground Rooftop. Now, there’s another one to add to the pile. Bermondsey is getting a brand new pizzeria this September.
Five Feet Pizza is set to open on the site of the historic Dobson’s Bakery. It’s has been masterminded by three heavyweights of the London food scene: Jay Patel (co-founder of Legare and Luna), Roland Horne (founder and CEO of WatchHouse) and Jack Ellingham (former chef and baker at Dusty Knuckle). They’ll venture away from the New-York style pizzas that have become prolific across the capital and instead serve pan pizzas with spongy centimetre-thick dough (not quite thick enough to qualify as deep-dish).
With space for 55 diners, Five Feet Pizza’s main menu will include a hot sausage pie with vodka sauce, pickled chillies and hot honey; pepperoni pie with fior di latte and parmesan, and white potato pie with caramelised onions, scamorza, aged cheddar and white sauce. Vegan pies will also be on offer. What will make the pizzas extra special is that they’ll be made from flour grounded on site with a bespoke stone mill shipped all the way from Montpellier.

On the side, you have the option of polenta fritta with vodka sauce and scamorza cheese, chicken wings or focaccia di recco, a flatbread filled with creamy stracchino cheese. For afters, there will be seasonal gelato, double chocolate cake made using Pump Street chocolate from Suffolk and bomboioni, a cinnamon crunch doughnut served with milk gelato made from Jersey dairy.
Five Feet will launch at 4 Tanner Street, Bermondsey (SE1 3Ld) in September and will be open Tuesday to Saturday evenings.
