Time Out says

Amos Gebhardt presents an opulent portrait of identity in this westside exhibition

There's a definite thread of cinematic scale and splendour in the work of Amos Gebhardt; unsurprising given the artist's dual background in photography and film (Gebhardt has previously worked on films like Snowtown). And their latest exhibition, Spooky Action (at a distance), is no different, with its lush portrayal of queerness, identity, resistance and entanglement.

Spooky Action (showing at the Substation as part of Photo 2021) brings together Gebhardt's photography and large-scale moving image installations. The exhibition is marked by the work's visual opulence; there's a magic hidden within the vibrant colours and ornate arrangements of the artist's tableaus. Spooky Action also features Gebhardt's 'Evanescence' – a whopping 20 metre-long video installation where 40 performers merge with different materials from the earth.

Entry is free and walk-ins will be accepted where possible. However, to ensure your preferred viewing time guests are encouraged to pre book their tickets for free online.
