Collingwood is now home to the brand spanking new Artbank and to celebrate they are hosting an open house. On Saturday March 24, Artbank will open the doors to its new contemporary art facility giving you the chance to peruse a snapshot of Artbank's sprawling collection.
The space has been designed by project architects Edition Office, and on the day you'll be able to check it out, groove to tunes by DJ Tanzer, snack on delicious street food from Beatbox Kitchen and see artist Sam Songailo's large-scale wall painting commission live. Along with housing loads of artworks, the precinct will also offer a community project and event space plus feature an artist studio.
Artbank is the Australian government initiative that acquires the work of living Australian contemporary artists and leases it out to the public, with 100 per cent of the leasing fees going back into supporting visual artists. Artbank is Australia's own art library that is made up of over 11,000 artworks, by 3500 artists.
