Time Out says
Seventh Gallery is the only gallery left standing on Fitzroy’s Gertrude Street (Gertrude Contemporary moved to Preston a few years back). They host exhibitions, public programs, and run an emerging writers program. Their motto is to support experimental practice in art, writing and curatorial practice across a diverse range of both artists and mediums.
They recently expanded their exhibition space to the top level of the two-storey building, and there’s plenty to see in their multiple galleries, including a small space for video art called Night Screen, which you can see during the day. They’ve also just eliminated artist fees, which means that artists and curators are actually compensated for their work! It's run by a host of volunteers, with gallery managers Chantelle Mitchell and Anita Spooner. Seventh host both solo and curated group exhibitions, and it’s great that there’s still space for art in an ever-gentrifying Fitzroy.
