Time Out says

A mysterious fairground ghost train has popped up in Melbourne

Who says you can only enjoy spooky things around Halloween? This March, street artist Mysterious Al is opening Spookhouse, an art exhibition that’s set inside an old school carnival ghost train.

Yes, you will be hopping aboard a real ghost train cart (which the artist found in Queensland) and travel through a short, colourful labyrinth featuring paintings, projections, special effects and animated characters created by Mysterious Al himself. Each cart fits two adults comfortably and will take you through a dark maze from which playfully monstrous artworks suddenly appear to give you a fright. Most adults will be fine with the experience, though small children may find it scary.

Spookhouse is two years in the making and features 70 new works from the artist. Plus, you can top off your ghost train ride by checking out the adjoining gallery space post-ride. Mysterious Al's works are dominated by a bold use of colour, with a delightfully unhinged and industrial edge to his paintings and paper assemblages. The exhibition also gives you a chance to see the ghost train carts up close, as well as the creepy creations that apparate throughout the ride. All of the artworks exhibited are for sale and check out the limited-edition merch, too.

The location is inside HoMie's warehouse at 35-53 Emma Street in Collingwood. It opened on March 19 and runs until March 28. It’s an all-ages event and tickets range from $8-$12 (kids under three are free). Tickets on sale now.
