Whether you’re a die-hard basketball fan or love to appreciate great works of art, come on down to Melbourne’s RMIT University and check out a new 40-metre custom mural by artist Kris Andrew Small commissioned by the National Basketball Association. The mural was brought to life by Blank Walls who painted Kris’ design onto the wall.
Designed to celebrate Australia’s current players who are helping shape the growth of basketball culture in the country, the vibrant piece covers the surrounding wall and sideline of the court at RMIT A’Beckett Urban Square ahead of the NBA’s upcoming 77th season.
Sydney-based Small has worked with some of the world’s biggest brands from Adidas to Apple, Gucci and Nike, and is renowned for his joyful statement explosions of colour, typography, pattern and collage – which is evident in the NBA City Court Mural.
Featuring the phrase ‘We are non-stop’ as a reminder of the endless drive it takes to become a NBA player, the artwork shines a spotlight on the sports’ influence on local culture incorporating its brand colours alongside Small’s typographic, collage style.
Lace up your sneakers, bring a ball and come on down to see the mural for yourself at RMIT A’Beckett Urban Square, Melbourne.
And for those playing along at home, the start of the 77th NBA season tips off on October 19.
The NBA has launched a revamped app that will feature live videos from every game along with personalised experiences, original shows and sport and lifestyle content. The app comes as the league lowered the price of NBA League Pass for Australian fans by about 50 per cent to $154.99 for a full season, or $21.99 per month.
