If all you know about Hanging Rock is the movie (and play) about the ill-fated schoolgirls who went on a picnic there, it's time to revisit the location.
Walking up to to the top of the rock is a relatively easy hike, with views that are worth the breathlessness. If you're not feeling energetic or are not up to the climb, you can do a gentle stroll around the base of the rock. There are barbecue facilities and clean toilets, and there is a small café on site for coffees and snacks.
Hanging Rock is also a site for major concerts and events, with the rock forming a stunning backdrop to shows of all kinds.
