Time Out says

4 out of 5 stars

Cookie offers a heady blend of children’s books and grown-up drinks

Cookie is the little black dress of bars. It’s a place we sometimes forget among all the glitzy new Places To Be Right Now, but every time we come back to this playful, manically busy joint, located a puffy stair climb halfway up Curtin House, we never know why we’ve been away – it’s an old faithful that never fails to deliver.

On a pure refreshment level, the drinks list is the most crowd-embracing in town. We’re talking 200 local and international craft beers, from Stone and Wood’s breezy Pacific Ale right down to syrupy Belgian La Chouffe Tripel. The wine list is 70 pages of astutely compiled, jet-setting vinous fun, while cocktails run the gamut from tall, fruity and lemongrassy stick drinks to a solid Martini they’ll twist any way you like, be it with lemon, grapefruit or chilli.

Those Asian flavours are part of the somewhat hard-to-nail-down Cookie theme. It’s part Thai restaurant, part beer barn, all set against a whimsical fairy-tale backdrop. Half of the broad-shouldered hall is taken up by a dining room where jungle curries are hitting tables as frequently as the city workers down the drinking end are hitting on each other. There are low-lit nooks aplenty for those that succeed. There are balconies for smokers. There’s everything you need for a good time in the CBD any night of the week.
