George's Bar

Time Out says
This Fitzroy gem has dropped its Seinfeld theme and is now the dive bar Johnston Street needed
George's Bar started its life with a flurry of media attention about its George Costanza theme (a huge mural of the character was on one wall, and a sign on the door instructed patrons to "BE MORE LIKE GEORGE". Jason Alexander himself even tweeted about the bar, which leaned into being a bar about nothing.
But it's dropped the theme and is now Johnston Street's dive bar, with a chilled-out attitude and lack of pretension from friendly bar staff. They'll happily make you a top-notch Old Fashioned or pour you a frothy beer from the rotating selection. If you're hungry, don't go past the toasties, all of which are named after famous Georges. Plus on Wednesdays you can score a toastie and a pint of Furphy for $15.
George's Bar also does a trivia night on Wednesdays and free stand-up comedy on Thursdays. Fridays and Saturdays are all about the local DJs.
