A new beachside bar is popping up in Torquay

Melbourne has its fair share of bars, but what does it lack? And let's be real here: a decent beach.

This sad reality puts a damper on seaside tipples. But, take a trip west to the Surf Coast (just over an hour's drive from the city centre), pull up in Torquay and you'll find all the sandy shandies you've been dreaming of in the form of Bomboras, a new beachside pop-up bar.

Bomboras sits comfortably on Fisherman's Beach and is currently the only spot to purchase food and drink by day, and something alcoholic by night. Bells Beach is brewing on tap and there's talk of local bands giving the summer nights a soundtrack. The view of Zeally Bay will be pretty spectacular, too.

This pop-up doesn't exist in a vacuum. The Bomboras crew have been dishing up seaside eats from their two kiosk cafes for years and, up until a couple of months ago, they ran a pizza restaurant of the same name on the Surf Coast Highway.

Bomboras sits near the corner of Beach Road and the Esplanade . It opened on Thursday November 3 and will run until April 2017. Opening hours are 11am-11pm daily.
