Hold on to your safari hats, Melbourne – we’re in for a wild musical ride.

Both Melbourne Zoo Twilights and Twilight at Taronga have just announced their summer live music programs, which in past years have seen thousands flock to the zoo for a night of live music under the stars.

This year, the line-ups – which largely overlap – are spectacular. The opening weekends will see Peter Garrett and the Alter Egos take to the stage. If Aussie rock is your thing, then don’t miss the chance to see the recently reformed Killing Heidi, as well as The Rubens, Jet, george and The Living End.

On the international front, American singer-songwriter Kurt Vile is sure to be a highlight, as well as American dream-pop quartet Warpaint (exclusive to Melbourne). Hailing from Canada is much-loved indie pop duo Tegan and Sara, plus the inimitable singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright. She’ll cap off the season at Taronga, while down in Melbourne, The Specials will bring the season to a close with their super danceable veteran ska sound.

No Zoo Twilights night is complete without a gourmet picnic – and you can bet that both zoos will be putting on great spreads. Grab your tickets when they go on sale next week (October 25), because they won’t last.
