The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has announced it will be playing John Williams' Oscar-nominated score for Star Wars: Episode 7 – The Force Awakens at a film and concert event this December.

Three screenings will take place at the Palais Theatre, St Kilda on December 8-10 with conductor Nicholas Buc leading the MSO. The events will precede Disney's release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on December 14.

The Force Awakens was released in December 2015 to the best reviews of any Star Wars film since The Empire Strikes Back in 1980. The concert screenings will mark the premiere of Star Wars: The Concert Series in Australia. Tickets are available now.

Sydney in the meantime is getting a concert screening of Star Wars: Episode 4 – A New Hope (aka the original Star Wars) in February 2018.

See a film in Melbourne tonight.
