Back in 2013, at great risk to himself, cybersecurity specialist Edward Snowden exposed the fact that the US government was trawling through its own citizens' private records. After the scandal broke, the US government was forced to significantly overhaul its data privacy laws.

Sadly, Australia didn't follow suit. Instead, since October last year, Australia's telecommunication companies are required to retain records of their users' mobile, landline and internet activity for up to two years. The rationale behind the legislation was that it was meant to protect against terrorist activity. At this special event, listen to why Snowden calls bollocks to that when the Chaser's Julian Morrow applies his razor sharp wit to the task of interviewing Snowden via satellite later this month. Make your own mind up about whether an impingement of civil liberty is justified in the name of security.

Sun May 22, MCEC. Tickets available from Think Inc. $79-$119. Doors open 6pm.
