Three comedians – Rhys Nicholson, Kyran Wheatley and Alex Dyson – had a dream to open a new theatre in Melbourne purpose-built for comedy. Then Covid-19 happened. So Nicholson, Wheatley and Dyson decided to open a new theatre purpose-built for both comedy and social distancing; and they called it Comedy Republic.
While it might take some time before Comedy Republic can reopen its doors physically, the theatre is committed to producing regardless of whether its audience is at home or not. Locked in Melbourne Tonight is a weekly comedy variety show running every Friday from August 21 to September 11.
Each show features songs, chats and plenty of laughs, with comedic stars from Melbourne, Australia and beyond. Upcoming line-ups will feature the likes of Nick Cody, Cal Wilson, Ivo Graham, Alex Ward, Daniel Connell, Mark Graham, Eleanor Tiernan and Garry Starr.
Locked in Melbourne Tonight shows cost between $15 and $25 (depending on how many people will be watching) with the virtual box office closing 30 minutes before showtime.
