The St Petersburg Ballet Theatre does things the traditional way and will bring that approach to Tchaikovsky’s magical masterpiece about a beautiful princess transformed into a swan. The performance will be led by award-winning prima ballerina Irina Kolesnikova who’ll play Odette. The company may not perform with a live orchestra, but there are 60 dancers on stage in intricate costumes and their own touring sets, making this a pretty decadent production.
Swan Lake will play a short season at Melbourne’s historic Princess Theatre, marking the first time the stage has seen the classical ballet in 65 years.
