Time Out says

Watch a documentary on edible insects and try out food made with bugs

Get ready to get a taste of insects during the upcoming Melbourne screenings of the award-winning eco foodie documentary The Gateway Bug. The screenings of the documentary will be accompanied by a special edible-insects menu which punters can indulge in.

More than 2 billion people around the world have already included edible insects in their diet. The Gateway Bug, directed by Johanna B. Kelly with co-producer and writer Cameron Marshad, presents insects as a sustainable source of protein in response to the global food system damaged by climate change.

The documentary will be screened on Tuesday, February 5 at Rooftop Cinema at 9pm. Get there an hour early to try out fries with black ant salt, hot dogs with spiced crickets and cricket protein bars.

Another screening will be held on Tuesday, February 19 at Cinema Nova at 7pm where edible insect canapes can be tried out before the film starts.

Tickets for the screening at Rooftop Cinema start at $18 and can be booked online. Cinema Nova tickets will cost $24 and can be booked online.
