Here in Melbourne, we’re lucky enough to live in a city filled with illuminating cultural experiences. That said, not all of us always have the dollars to fund our love of art adventures – which is where we come in.

For a limited time, Time Out and Melbourne Filmoteca – a film group that holds monthly screenings of Latin American and Spanish films – are giving away two double passes, plus a $50 voucher to ACMI Café and Bar, to Ixcanul (Volcano) on Tuesday October 3.

This 2016 film is the dreamlike debut feature by Guatemalan director Jayro Bustamante. It follows the daily lives of a community of Kaqchikel-speaking Mayans, who work on a coffee plantation at the base of a looming volcano. When 17-year-old Maria gets betrothed to the farm’s foreman, she begins to concoct a plan to escape from her traditional life in search of a radically different future. The award-winning film has been lauded as an immersive and realistic portrayal of a disappearing culture.
