Teddy Bear Hospital Winter Check-Up

Visiting the doctor as a kid can be intimidating, but here to assuage kids' nerves and introduce them to the world of hospital medicine is the Teddy Bear Hospital Winter Check-Up. This annual fundraising event is where children can get their teddies treated while learning about health care. It’s fun, interactive and educational, but best of all, proceeds benefit the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
For the fifth annual Winter Check-Up, five activity stations will be set up on Chadstone’s Lower Ground Floor, all manned by volunteer medical and allied health students from the University of Melbourne. Kids can pull on lab coats and check their teddies’ eyes, ears, heart and teeth before deciding which treatment they need. They’ll usher their furry patients through radiology, music therapy, speech pathology, physiotherapy, immunisation and even surgery before finishing at the photo station for a snap with their healthy bears. Between stations, roaming planes and ambulances will dispense emergency bear care.
You can BYO a patient from home or purchase an adorable emergency services-themed teddy bear at the event. (We’ve got our eye on the lifesaver bear, aka Teddy Hasselhoff, with his cute little red-and-yellow swim cap.) Tickets for the Winter Check-Up are $10 per child or $20 per family. It's open 10am-5pm, Saturday August 24 and Sunday August 25, with last admission each day at 4.30pm. Visit chadstone.com.au for more information.
