We’re so crazy about seeing bands live that it’s even been officially recognised, with a recent study confirming that Melbourne has the most live music venues in the world per capita (we have one venue per 9,503 residents in case you’re interested).
With so many live music venues, however, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by choice. Don’t overthink it – head to Transit Rooftop Bar to hear live music five days a week. From Wednesday to Sunday the bar comes alive as bands, solo artists and DJs bring their tunes to the rooftop. With a line-up spanning jazz, blues and soul to ska and reggae, all kicking off from 6pm, there’s something for everyone.
The music kicks off from Wednesday nights, with piano and drum duos; think New Orleans soul and Chicago blues. The Friday-night bands hit the stage at 7pm followed by some of Melbourne’s most serious vinyl collectors playing tunes until late. The Saturday-night shows kick off at 5pm with an early-evening jam to warm the room for the 9pm show. Then it's swinging jazz parties and funky soul with plenty of brass keeping the dance floor full until late.
Sunday afternoons showcase acoustic sessions on the deck with rounds of chicken wings (Transit’s shout!) and cold cans of beer for a fiver. Then it's DJs playing the sunset reggae sounds.
As well as having a rockin' regular line-up of live music, Transit Rooftop Bar also has some of the best views of the Yarra River (a sure-way to impress a date). Plus, with both an indoor and outdoor area, there’s always somewhere to relax regardless of Melbourne’s changeable weather.
