Last year, Off the Grid launched as an experiment to see whether an entire musical festival could be run by harnessing the power of the summer solstice. It worked. More than a thousand people gathered in the forecourt of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Arts – and this year, organisers are hoping to double it to 2,000.
Start your day with a series of talks by leading environmentalists, activists and architects, where you'll learn about Off the Grid's long-term goal to help fuel more of the city using solar power.
Then, settle into an evening of music. The line-up leans towards electronic talent, with Detroit DJ Jay Daniel taking headline spot. More international names including Tokyo-based DJ Chee Shimizu, Sydney DJ Ben Fester and Melbourne garage-pop trio Dianas.
