Time Out says

Enjoy opera, Broadway and symphony performances for free in Stonnington’s beautiful gardens

Update 29/01/2020: The City of Stonnington has decided to cancel The Classics: Opera on Saturday, February 1 due to extreme weather forecasts.

The Classics are back with three free performances lined up for the summer. Stonnington’s historic gardens and parks will be turned into concert venues where performers such as Archie Roach, Rhonda Burchmore and the Jack Earle Big Band will cover opera, Broadway and symphony genres.

The Classics: Opera on Saturday, February 1 at Victoria Gardens, High Street, Prahran

Puccini's Tosca is headed to the stage under the direction of award-winning Australian director Cameron Menzies. An abridged version will be performed by Kathryn Radcliffe, Carlos E Barcenas and Christopher Tonkin. *NB this event is now cancelled!

The Classics: Broadway on Saturday, February 15 at Ardrie Park, Ardrie Road, Malvern East

The inimitable Rhonda Burchmore will be joined by 16-piece jazz ensemble the Jack Earle Big Band as they play big band classics from George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen and more.

The Classics: Symphony on Saturday, February 22 at Malvern Gardens, High Street, Malvern

Musical legend Archie Roach will take to the stage to perform orchestral arrangements of his most famous songs. He will be supported by the Stonnington Symphony Orchestra, which is made up of musicians aged 18 to 83.
