Since shaking onto Manhattan’s East Village scene in 2006, Death and Co has gained a cult following – now it has an Aussie home on Flinders Lane

Quietly landing in the CBD near the tail end of last year, Death and Co is the dark and moody bar Melbourne has been waiting for. The New York-born group – famous for its innovative cocktails and contributions to modern bar culture – first established its roots in Manhattan in 2006 before opening additional venues in LA, Washington DC and Denver.
And this slick two-level venue at 87 Flinders Lane is the team's very first venture outside the United States.
The extensive cocktail menu caters to almost every kind of drinker. For something fresh and playful, opt for the Raven Master (vodka, cachaça, pear, lime, soda). Those with a taste for a bevvie that's elegant and boozy, try the Noble One (white port, apera, apricot, honey, orange bitters). Guests are also encouraged to engage with the team through Dealer’s Choice, a system where bartenders recommend the best-suited drink based on individual preference – plus food pairings to match. And the food is a drawcard in its own right.
Kingfish comes dressed with olive brine and gin botanicals to mirror the punch of a classic Martini; flatbread is slathered in Vegemite butter and fennel pollen; and a dry-aged beef cheeseburger cranks up the umami factor (and cals, for those who like their snacks on the heartier side).
Death and Co is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 4pm to 1am with seated table service across both levels, bookings available online and walk-ins welcome. Find out more at the website.
