The battle for your cinema dollar has been raging for a while now with Palace and Dendy offering $10 and $5 movie tickets periodically, but here's an offer that arguably trumps them all: a whole day of free movies – all tickets, all sessions, no strings attached.

The occasion is the opening of Hoyts the District Docklands, a new eight-screen complex that includes two 24-metre 'Xtremescreens', and powered recliners and Dolby Atmos surround sound in every cinema. On Saturday April 13 at Hoyts the District Docklands, it's free films all day. The movies they are screening include Captain Marvel, Shazam!, Dumbo, Wonder Park, The Lego Movie 2, Pet Sematary and Us.

They're also putting on live music and special food offers in the foyer while you wait for your session to start.

To take advantage of the offer you need to book online at the website. A maximum of four tickets per session can be booked.

Popcorn and drinks are not free of course – that's how cinemas actually make their profits, after all – but at this rate, who knows what the chains will be offering next?
