We wouldn't blame you if you were suddenly overcome with a bit of choice paralysis when trying to decide on a lunch spot in Werribee. The main street has a lot to offer, but Chatterbox Café is the spot for hearty fare with a flavourful twist.
Opening in late 2007, Chatterbox was quick to establish a name for itself on Werribee's usually bustling Watton Street. Clientele might have initially been tempted by the promise of coffee and fresh, seasonal produce – but they've been coming back for the smiling service and the chance of running into friendly neighbourhood faces.
That's not to dismiss the excellent menu, curated by chef Casey Bunting. The Chatterbox hollandaise sauce is a house special: you can have it smothered on the Benne burger – featuring bacon, hash browns, a fried egg and spinach – or take it drizzled on the Hash Royale, a sumptuous breakfast feast of housemade potato hash topped with smoked salmon, poached eggs. Oh, and did we mention they serve breakfast all day? If there's one thing to soothe the soul after a long day out, it's a big breakfast with the lot (think bacon, sausage, hash browns, onion jam) at a time that is decidedly not in the AM.
If lunch food at lunchtime is your thing – no judgement – they have a hearty menu to choose from, featuring loaded burgers, Mum's housemade pappardelle and a vegan burger featuring Cajun-crumbed mushroom and creamy pumpkin hummous.
Currently they're open 5am-2pm on weekdays, 6am-2pm on Saturdays and 7am-1pm on Sundays for takeaway and delivery. Just give them a ring on 03 9741 7495.
