Tucked behind the busy Acland Street drag, Galleon is a local favourite with St Kilda hipsters and young parents who refuse to change where they go for brekkie just because they’ve got a buggy. It’s also one of those cafes where hangovers come to die - a retro greasy spoon filled with a mish-mash of furniture to match the inside of your head and a carb-heavy menu to soak up the excesses of the night before.
Maintain sugar levels with a fresh-baked muffin from the counter while you wait to sink your teeth into a BLAT (that’s a BLT with avocado, just in case you slept through the nineties) or one of the specials chalked up on the board. Hats off to the team for coming up with some original vegetarian brunch options too - the cafe's scrambled tofu has gained quite a following but it's hard to go past the falafel-like sweet potato, basil and feta hash browns served with wilted spinach, a poached egg and spicy chutney.
Don’t be put off by the queue around the door: the brisk trade and efficient service ensure a steady turnover of tables.
